training
opportunities about sustainable design and practices.
Operations
and Maintenance Best Practices Guide
-

The Index is a compilation of information on the
"health" of aquatic resources in the United States. The Index looks at a variety
of indicators that point to whether rivers, lakes, streams, wetlands and coastal areas are
"well" or "ailing" and whether activities on the surrounding lands
that affect our waters are placing them at risk.

AIRSWeb:
http://www.epa.gov/
AIRSWeb, sponsored by the United States
Environmental Protection Agencys Office of Air Quality Planning & Standards,
provides access to air pollution data for the entire United States. The site includes such
information as the highest ozone level measured by state, where air pollution monitoring
sites are located, and what the sources of air pollution are. The site also creates custom
reports using criteria that are specified, and displays standard maps of the United
States.
Center for Environmental Statistics:

The Center for Environmental Information and
Statistics (CEIS) is a central source for environmental information and statistics. It
produces integrated, multimedia information on environmental quality, status and trends,
and provides individuals, communities, businesses and other organizations with improved

natural environment.
Sustainable Development ToolKit:
http://www.sustainable.doe.gov:80/reflib.html
The United States Department of Energy, through
their Smart Communities Network, is offering this toolkit about
sustainable development and the resources available in the field. The site includes a
collection of indicators of sustainability, news articles, publications, manuals, and
software that is available to understand the issues involved in sustainable development.
National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT):
http://222.ncat.org
With programs in energy, agriculture and communities, NCAT provides
information on sustainable technologies and community-based approaches that
can help improve the lives of economically disadvantaged people.
Indicators of Sustainable Development:
http://www.un.org/dpcsd/dsd/isd.htm
The United Nations Commission on Sustainable
Development (CSD) has developed this site to explore the indicators of sustainable
development. As part of the implementation of the Work Program on Indicators of
Sustainable Development (ISDs) adopted by the Commission, a working list of 134 indicators
and related methodology sheets has been developed and is now available for voluntary
testing at the national level, by countries from all regions of the world. The aim of the
CSD with respect to ISDs is to have an agreed set of indicators available for all
countries to use by the year 2000.
