Welcome to the Engineering Practices Working Group's Configuration Management Subgroup's section of the Energy Facility Contractors Group's Knowledge Portal.
The Configuration Management (CM) Subgroup is
comprised of CM practitioners representing a wide variety of
Department of Energy (DOE) Contractor-managed sites. The
goal of CM is to identify important structures, systems and
components (SSCs), know their requirements, control changes,
and maintain accurate technical documentation. Or more
formally stated, CM is an integrated management process that
establishes 1) the requirements, 2) the design/operations
documentation, and 3) the physical/functional configuration
of SSCs; maintaining consistency among these items as
changes are made.
Because CM is applied
throughout the lifecycle (design/construction phase,
operations phase, D&D phase) of a DOE facility, each
practitioner brings some experiences unique to his/her
facility; however many of the CM issues and problems
encountered at DOE facilities are often common. It is the
purpose and intent of this group to:
-
Identify areas of
collective interest to develop guidance and direction in
a team approach.
-
Serve as a network for
member use for real-time problem discussion and sharing
of resources and methodologies.
The purpose of this Knowledge Portal is to provide a vehicle to allow members of the Configuration Management community to keep abreast of the latest Configuration Management related news, issues, and events across the DOE complex; for the sharing of innovative ideas and practices; and to collaborate virtually on
the development and implementation
of new Configuration Management practices and processes.
