DOE Complex Electrical Event Charts

January 2008

There was an overall increase for all Electrical Events across the DOE complex for January.  January was above the Upper Control Limit with 10 reports, the highest number since January 2006.  The reports of interest are listed in the data file accompanying the charts.

There was an increase for 08A Electrical Shocks across the DOE complex for January.  January came in above the Upper Control Limit with six reports.  There had been previous spikes in June and August 2007, but the September - December data had returned to the baseline average of 1.8 per month.  The specific reports involved were:

EM-RL--PHMC-WESF-2008-0001

EM-RL--WCH-ERDF-2008-0001

EM-SR--WSRC-WVIT-2008-0002

NA--LSO-LLNL-LLNL-2008-0001

NA--LSO-LLNL-LLNL-2008-0004

NA--SS-SNL-NMFAC-2008-0002

EM spiked above its Upper Control Limit for 08A Electrical Shocks with three reports.  This was the highest monthly number since June 2005.

EM spiked above its Upper Control Limit for 08J Electrical Shocks with four reports.  This was the highest monthly number since February 2006, nearly two years ago.

The DOE Complex-wide 08J Electrical Near Miss chart shows a decreasing trend for May 2007 - December 2007.  There have been 2 or 3 events per month during that time interval, all below the baseline of 3.6 per month.  January 2008 did come in above the baseline, but next month a new, reduced baseline average should be able to be established.

“Check of Work Less than Adequate A3B1C01” remains the leading cause of electrical events.
