Work Management Conference Call
3/23/2005
-
Hanford CH2MHILL – Tony Jennings and Randy Cook
-
Hanford Fluor - Cheryl Salinas
-
SRS - Tim Flake and Rick Fleming
-
Oak Ridge Y-12 - Steve Little
-
ORNL - Jerry Palau
-
DOE - Michael Hillman
Previous topics:
SRS- Tim and Rick discussed that they had modified the Automated Job Hazard Analysis tool and implemented it in January. They ended up pulling it back and are now focusing on the Hazard Analysis process, checklists and how to
define scope.
Oak Ridge Y-12 – Steve Little is in the process of implementing a new Work Control process. The Work Control Manual will be available in a couple of weeks.
New Topic: NNSA sponsoring QA to write Work Management Procedure
Steve Little discussed the fact that NNSA was having a QA subgroup draft a standard on Work Control. This concerned most of the members of this group based on the fact that there was no communication with the members of the work
management subgroup until, as an after thought, Steve Little was asked to attend and help them. Mike Hillman stated that he thought that this effort may be given to our group once NNSA understood what our group is doing.
New Topic: Next Meeting to Focus on the JHA process
It was suggested that our next workshop focus on the JHA process rather than the tool and that since the Nevada Test Site has been cited as having a good process for Job Hazard Analysis that we should get them to either support
or sponsor this meeting.
Mike Hillman suggested that we try to hold our workshop in Washington DC at the same time that the ISM Working Group is holding their meetings in April. Tony Jennings agreed that we needed to focus on the process rather than the
tool but was reluctant to commit to a Work Shop in April with the ISM Working Group. He recommended that we get a member to volunteer to attend the April ISM work shops.
General Comments – DNFSB believes that Contractors are putting more emphasis on the Automation rather than the Analysis. We need to focus on the Hazard Analysis, Obstacles, Challenges, Best Practices, and possibly a demo of
various tools as secondary information.
Mike then thought that we need to get some attention from the DNFSB and DOE / NNSA on our groups efforts to improve the JHA process. It was discussed that we may want to add this as a tag along with the Annual meeting in
Washington DC. It is believed that once the subject of our workshop is understood we would get a lot of attention.
Decisions –
- It was decided that April ISM meeting would be too short of a time to prepare for properly as a group.
- Steve will contact Pam Horning to see if it would be appropriate to tag on to the EFCOG Annual Meeting in June.
- Steve will let the group know what he finds out and that we will conference call again in a couple of weeks to further discuss the location and time of the meeting.
