Remembering a Friend and a Mentor!!
On April 24, 2000, we lost a very dear friend and mentor, Ann Pendergrass.
Ann came to work at the Laboratory in 1989 with the former Health Safety
Environmental Division (HSE-8) as a staff member for the NEPA Group. From
1994 to 1997 she worked with the Laboratory Site-Wide Environmental Impact
Statement (SWEIS) Project under Doris Garvey. She was working with ESH-3
Integrated Risk Analysis, Management & Communication Group as a safety
analyst.
Ann was a very positive individual. She was energetic and always willing
to help anyone that asked her for help. I remember her always taking time
to enjoy nature by setting up a hummingbird and bird feeder by the group
office. She always made time to feed her flying friends year round. At
ESH-3, three or four times a month she would make time to bake a cake,
cookies, or brownies for everyone to enjoy. She was always there to give
me a helping hand and mentor me on the safety analysis process. I will
miss Ann as well as many others who crossed her path.
Ann belonged to the Noon-time Kiwanis where she served as president and
helped raise $10,000 for Rover Park down in Whiterock. She volunteered
for numerous community and laboratory activities (Science Fair Judge,
Women in Science, etc.).
On Sunday April 30, 2000, Snow Anderson of the Los Alamos Monitor wrote
an article about Ann where she said, "The day of her interview Ann's sunny
kitchen was filled with boxes of seedlings. She said she was looking forward
to planting the garden. Ann won't be here to plant a garden this spring,
but judging by the number of people whose lives she has touched, it is
evident that she left behind plenty of seeds that will grow in other ways."
Ann planted her seed in Me!! Thanks Ann!!
