The training course, "Introduction to Integrated Safety Management (ISM)" was developed to provide an introduction to the process used to manage safety at Department of Energy (DOE) facilities. The course is designed primarily for employees who need to understand the basic concepts of an ISM system and the policy and guidance that has been prepared to support the implementation of the program. Additionally, the training presentation will address the role of authorization agreements in the conduct of potentially hazardous work within the DOE complex. At the conclusion of the course, attendees should know the major components of the ISM process, events leading up to the Secretary's policy on ISM, and the requirements of the Department's "ES&H" and "Laws" contract clauses. The course is not intended to provide a detailed understanding of the policy and guidance necessary to prepare a specific ISMS plan. The information presented can be used by the Department's employees, contractors and laboratory personnel to facilitate the implementation of ISM across the DOE complex.
