Course
Description:
The Safety Basis Document Preparation Basics
course is designed to provide requisite knowledge and
understanding of DOE facility safety basis and safety
requirements documentation primarily for non-3009
facilities/activities. Upon completion of this course, the
student will have a general knowledge and understanding of
safety basis documentation requirements to contribute as a
team member in the documentation of facility safety analyses
and development of controls documentation for a DOE
facility/activity. This course supports functional needs
identified by the Safety Basis Academy project for the
position of safety analyst, in the functional area of Safety
Basis developer. This course is being piloted as one
of a set of eleven courses to be offered this year through
the Safety Basis Academy.
Target
Audience:
This course is for Safety Analysts whose work
activities involve preparing safety basis documents for
primarily non–DOE Standard 3009 facilities/activities.

Duration:
The course duration is twenty-four (24)
hours, including end-of-course evaluation activities.
Evaluation
Methods:
Individual and group activities and oral
questioning will be used to assess student ability to
outline requirements, structure, and practices for safety
basis processes implemented throughout the Department of
Energy. Course credit will be based upon an end-of course
written examination and participation in class activities.
Attendance
Requirements:
Attendees absent for more than one hour of
the classroom training period will, at the discretion of the
instructor, not receive class credit.
